Fran Harris is ‘GMA’ finalist

Former University of Texas basketball star Fran Harris is a finalist to become the Dear “GMA” Advice Guru on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Harris, who recently hosted the life makeover show “Home Rules” on HGTV, is competing with 19 other hopefuls for the job. They were selected from a field of about 15,000 applicants. The winner will appear on-air and also write an advice column for the show’s Web site.

Currently based in Dallas, Harris has experience as a life coach, speaker, writer and broadcaster. She led the Lady Longhorns to an NCAA title in 1986 and went on to a pro career with the Houston Comets.

Want a sampling of her advice? “Don’t make your stuff about the person you’re having the problem with,” Harris wrote in her application essay. “Our experience — whatever we’re feeling about or towards a situation or person — is about US, not them.”
